I was visiting Baton Rouge during Mardi Gras weekend and was walking along the river walk beside downtown, snapping photos of different things that I saw. Later on when I cropped the attached photo, it looked to me like the birds in the photo were Bald Eagles (the white head & tail with the spread out wing tips). When I looked at my bird field guide, it said that Bald Eagles can be seen along the Mississippi River during the winter and then I saw that Bald Eagles are indeed listed on the Louisiana Bird list.
But being a new birder, I am too quick to get excited about thinking I have a photo of something out of the ordinary. And Bald Eagles living along side an urban area in Louisiana??? Talk about far-fetched!!
So I emailed that photo of the birds I thought were Bald Eagles to a Baton Rouge contact on the Louisiana Ornithological Society website: http://www.losbird.org/index.htm
and guess what?!?! Here's the reply I got!!!!

Indeed, Bald Eagles are regularly seen along the River and also
occasionally near LSU Lakes and Capital Lakes in and around Baton Rouge.
Your photos are certainly eagles.
