A super rare treat. I just saw a peregrine falcon sitting on my neighbor's fence! It was about 12:45 today, windy and about 20 degrees here in Bend. At first glance I thought it was a female kestrel because it was in a tree, but when I turned around to get a better look, it flew to the fence and it was a good 14". + tall. Amazing!! It looked like an adult in its winter plumage. I used to see these in Portland all the time, but never here in Central Oregon. Awesome!!! It's right up there with the brown creepers in my Ponderosas out front for special bird sightings here at my place. What a great start to my new year.

Michelle, thanks for that jolt of electricity . . . i could feel that same feeling you did the moment you realized the Kestrel was NOT a Kestrel, but a Peregrine!! awesome! Happy New Year to you and Good Fortune in spotting all the birds you can in 2009!!!!
