I'm a complete novice birder. I grew up watching wildlife in Yellowstone with my father and just recently have ventured into birding.
1-2009 Just got back from Spacecoast Birding Festival. I'm totally digging the female belted kingfisher - she has an extra belt that is red! Girls gotta have accessories! I also think I identify with the reddish egret - I'm a bit gawky and clumsy and I love to be in the water.
My favorite type of birds:
I'll always have a fondness for cardinals since I grew up watching them out my granny's back door where the feeder was. Her philosophy was to put out enough food so that nobody had to fight for it!
A great North Texas resource for birding is Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge www.fws.gov/southwest/refuges/texas/hagerman/index.html www.friendsofhagerman.com
