There aren't alot of odd birds in Minneapolis, at least not this year. I did see a Grey Catbird; also a hawk (I always have trouble differentiating the hawks) snatch a sparrow fron my feeder last year. I have a nest box in a Black Walnut tree…
Congrats on being a new husband and new dad!
I have been very much a homebody this winter. I do like to go at end of March-mid April to see what waterfowl is migrating on the Mississippi over here at the coon rapids dam. I am more into songbirds…
Love people and animals alike. Especially the feathered ones!
My favorite type of birds:
I love to try to ID the waterfowl that come migrating thru MN in the Spring, my favs are the songbirds cause they are the cutest and some have a beautiful song. I love the majestic and huge raptors, owls. The tropical birds of paradise are simply amazing and beautiful! My fav one in MN is the Black-capped Chickadee, they are so dang cute and tiny, so polite at the birdfeeder and have a cute and origanal voice. I held a couple I sort of trapped in my apt once. I don't think they minded it too much, they looked as curious at me as I did when gazing at them.

I have a nest box in a Black Walnut tree to try and attract a Kestrel since I live near 35W. Rutledge is in Northeastern MN so you get a pretty wide variety up there. We have a cabin there and saw Great Grey Owls the same year you did, 2005? We see Bald Eagles, Osprey and Hooded Mergansers on the river, Red-winged Blackbirds in the marsh and Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Hairy, Downy, Pileated and Red Bellied Woodpeckers, Belted Kingfishers amd Dark-Eyed Junco. I hear Great Horned Owls and Barred Owls quite a bit. We have a nest box up there to try and attract a Barred Owl or Saw-Whet Owl (my favorite). I can't wait for spring to arrive to hear the songs again!
